Plus size fashion blog xoxonettaP and Kendra Porter of Honor You, the premier personal image agency for full-figured women, will host the fifth NYC Plus Size Clothing Swap on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 6:00PM – 8:30PM at Katra Lounge, 217 Bowery St., NY, NY. Participants are asked to bring clean, gently used, plus size clothing (Size 10+) and shoes to swapping for “new to you” items. All remaining clothing and shoes will be donated to Women in Need, an organization focused on helping disadvantaged women and families. The NYC Plus Size Clothing Swap is a fun and social event for women who want to easily swap their plus size wardrobe. If you’ve outgrown an item, never quite wore it like you thought you would, or if you’re looking for something in a different size, the NYC Plus Size Clothing Swap is a comfortable place to socialize with other curvy fashion lovers, while supporting a great cause.
This is the fifth Plus Size Clothing Swap that xoxonettaP has hosted in New York City, and she is excited to bring on new partners and sponsors as the event continues to expand. The focus of the event is to provide women who wear clothing a size 10 and up with a comfortable place to swap clothes and shoes with other women. All items will be sorted upon arrival. Pop Up Plus will be selling some items on site. Eddy & Bri, the newest premier shopping destination for curvy fashionistas, will be offering discounted items for sale, donating a portion of the proceeds to Women in Need. Bella Creations will also be selling jewelry during the event.
NYC Plus Size Clothing Swap has also partnered with plus size fashion designer Eryn Stutts of Dimestore Diamond, a collection that is aimed at providing women with styles that empower them to be sexy and comfortable while utilizing a sustainable approach to production with ethically sourced fabrics and yarns. Photographer Carrie Lou of Shots by Carrie Lou will be onsite to capture the event. “There is a vicious cycle when it comes to fashion for women that wear a size14+,” says Kendra. “Someone once called plus size women the ‘neglected shopper’ and often that is truly the case. Retailers generally carry a smaller selection of items with limited variety; women unhappy with the limited selection and lack of variety leave stores feeling frustrated wanting more options and in the end retailers believes plus size women aren’t a large enough market. The Nordstrom Rack event caps off a busy week for the plus-size stylista who recently appeared on the Sundance Channel’s new reality show, All On the Line with Joe Zee, where Porter was part of a panel critiquing a designer’s new line.
